Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits of naturopathic medicine?
What types of conditions can a naturopathic doctor treat?
Naturopathic doctors are trained as general practitioners and treat the entire spectrum of medical conditions.
Who can naturopathic medicine help?
Men, women, and children of all ages and health levels can benefit from naturopathic medicine.
Is naturopathic medicine cost effective?
Yes. Naturopathic medicine promotes health, lowering the risk factors associated with many illnesses. This decreases their likelihood of developing, making naturopathic medicine very cost effective. Prevention is the best medicine.
What kind of training does a naturopathic doctor receive?
A licensed naturopathic doctor (N.D.) is one who attended a Department of Education accredited, four-year graduate level naturopathic medical school, and has successfully passed a series of rigorous, professional board exams, so that he or she may be licensed by a state or jurisdiction as a primary care general practice doctor.
With over 4,600 hours of course and clinical training, the curriculum in naturopathic medical schools parallels that of conventional medical schools: naturopathic medical students must master all the basic and clinical sciences required to graduate from a conventional medical school, as well as be thoroughly trained in wholistic and non-toxic approaches to therapy, with a strong emphasis on disease prevention and optimizing wellness. In addition to a standard medical curriculum, the naturopathic doctor is required to complete four years of training in clinical nutrition, hydrotherapy, homeopathic medicine, botanical medicine, naturopathic manipulative therapy, naturopathic philosophy, psychology, and counseling.
How is naturopathic medicine different from conventional medicine?
Conventional medicine is primarily retro-active. It comes into the picture when you are already sick. You present with symptoms A, B and C, get a diagnosis of D and receive drug E and/or surgery F. Medical doctors are trained using this equation and are well-versed in prescribing pharmaceuticals and performing surgical procedures. Unfortunately, drugs and surgery often do not address the root cause of illness; they serve to mask and suppress symptoms without resolving the underlying problem.
On the other hand, naturopathic medicine takes a pro-active approach. Because it enhances health, naturopathic medicine helps to prevent illness from developing. Naturopathic philosophy focuses on treating the root cause of illness to foster true health and understands that symptoms can be clues to the origin of dis-ease. Naturopathic doctors recognize that people don’t fit into an equation, so medicine is individualized, tailored to YOU as a physical, emotional and spiritual being.
What should I expect during my first visit to Revive?
Initial visits are one hour, at which time your practitioner will take a detailed history of your health complaints. They may choose to do a physical exam, perform bodywork, or order lab work. If you have already had tests done, you may choose to bring a copy of them with you. Some natural medications or supplements may be prescribed, and a treatment plan will be provided.
Will my doctor at Revive work in conjunction with my other healthcare providers?
Yes. We will work in conjunction with any healthcare provider you may be seeing in addition to those at Revive. We believe that each healthcare profession provides a valuable and unique experience for the patient. By working together, we ensure the best healthcare possible for YOU.
Does insurance cover services provided by Naturopathic doctors?
At this time, some insurance companies cover naturopathic services, and others don’t. Currently, Revive Naturopathic Medicine, Inc. is not recognized as a network provider under any insurance plans. If your plan has coverage for out-of-network naturopathic providers, Revive can provide you with a Medical Superbill containing appropriate insurance coding to submit for reimbursement.
How long will treatment take?
Because your healing journey is unique to you, it is impossible to predict how long treatment will take. People respond differently to treatments, and your particular health needs play a role in determining how quickly you will improve. All treatments are individualized to YOU, but your commitment to adhering to treatment guidelines will affect the time it takes for you to heal. Most patients report significant improvement within the first few months.
What is optimal health?
The definition of “optimal health” will vary slightly from person to person based on their particular set of circumstances. Generally speaking, the doctors at Revive define optimal health as:
A state of balance and wellbeing among the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and social realms that allows for a happy, healthy, fulfilling and purposeful life free of dis-ease.
Why should I see a doctor at Revive if my symptoms are currently managed with medication(s)?
Medications often serve to mask or suppress symptoms. They can provide much-needed relief! However, they fail to address the root cause of illness. This becomes evident when the medication is discontinued and symptoms return.
True health can only be achieved when the root cause of a symptom or dis-ease is healed. The doctors at Revive have undergone special training and are well-versed in how to add health to your life and address the true cause(s) of your symptoms.
If I am taking prescription medications, can I take natural medicines?
While it is safe to take many natural medicines in conjunction with prescription drugs, you should always consult your physician(s) prior to starting a new medication regimen. The natural medicines used at Revive serve to optimize the physiology of your body and may change your medication needs.
The doctors at Revive will always ensure your safety by considering medications you are currently taking before making any new recommendations. Many patients are able to eliminate medications as their bodies become healthier, but this must be carefully done under the supervision of the doctor that prescribed the medication. We are happy to work in conjunction with other doctors so that you get the best treatment possible.
What forms of payment does Revive accept?
We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards.
