What is Low Level Laser Therapy?
Low Level Laser or “Cold Laser” is a non-invasive, well tolerated device physiotherapy used commonly in the field of orthopedics, neurology and regenerative medicine. Its application has been successfully studied in a variety of conditions including: injury repair, pain (acute and chronic), depression/anxiety, parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury and macular degeneration.
Low level laser therapy (LLLT) involves the application of laser or LED light to improve tissue repair, reduce pain and reduce inflammation. Research suggests the effects are mediated through simulation of our mitochondria. If you remember back to highschool, your mitochondria are the part of your cell that is responsible for producing energy. Upregulation of mitochondrial function facilitates improved energy production, reduced local inflammation and improved cell regeneration. All of those equate to reduced pain, lowered inflammation and faster healing.
Why do we use low level laser therapy?
Simply, low level laser therapy allows you to feel better faster! It can be used for simple sprains to complex nerve damage to stubborn low back pain or chronic arthritis. Ibuprofen and Tylenol do nothing to actually help you heal faster (and in fact can slow healing time, 1,2). Icing is fine for pain, but actually restricts blood flow and other interventions like injections or surgery are very invasive and should be utilized further down the road and only if needed.
On a more detailed level however, low level laser therapy does something most therapies, especially medication don’t. It actually helps your tissues heal faster by promoting promotes tissue regeneration and improving blood flow and it reduces pain. All through a non-invasive treatment with little to no side effects. Finally a therapy that stimulates your own inherent healing process!

Treatment DetailS:
We recommend 3-5 treatments on a weekly basis (sometimes twice per week), though generally benefits are often realized after 1-2 sessions.
At Revive, we don’t make patients commit to pre-paid packages and take each case week by week.
For musculoskeletal problems it is often combined with shockwave therapy and/or biofeedback.
Ask your Revive Doctor about low level laser therapy as a potential way to avoid risky surgery, resolve pain without medication and regain pain free living. Low level laser works to reduce pain and inflammation while stimulating tissue regeneration and healing.
